Safeguarding at St Helena's CE Primary Academy

School values and commitment

Our school aims to provide all members of the school community with the opportunities to engage with the highest quality of education and encouragement.  We are committed to striving for excellence and ensuring that all students are known, valued and can achieve.

School commitment

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone in our school who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. To fulfil this responsibility effectively, all our staff make sure their approach is child-centred, meaning at all times, we consider what is in the best interests of the child.  In this policy, the term ‘child’ or ‘children’ refers to anyone under the age of 18 years.  It is important that we create the right culture and environment so that staff feel comfortable to discuss matters both within, and where it is appropriate, outside the workplace (including online), which may have implications for the safeguarding of children.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children means:

  • Providing help and support to meet the needs of children as soon as problems emerge;
  • Protecting children from maltreatment, whether that is within or outside the home, including online;
  • Preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development;
  • Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;
  • Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
